About The Jena Company


Founded in 2001, The JENA Company manages, books, and produces national tours of new work by acclaimed theatre artists. The company is led by its Managing Director, John Adams.

In recent years, Mr. Adams served as Producer for Encore Attractions. Among their most prominent credits are national tours of CAMELOT featuring James Warwick, star of the PBS series “Partners in Crime”, and ZORBA with Elias Zarou from Canada’s renowned Stratford Festival. The company also presented the U.S. premiere of UNFORGETTABLE, The Nat King Cole Story. In addition, Encore’s roster included Terrance McNally’s Tony Award winning play MASTER CLASS, starring Charlotte Cornwall from Great Britain’s Royal National Theatre, and a two-season tour of MAHALIA, A Gospel Musical.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Adams mounted over 35 national tours for Daedalus Productions. These presentations ranged from EVITA and AIN'T MISBEHAVIN' to A SOLDIER'S PLAY and FOR COLORED GIRLS. For Daedalus, he also produced the Actors Equity National Tour of FROM THE MISSISSIPPI DELTA, originally presented on the New York stage by Oprah Winfrey.

The JENA Company’s first production was the coast to coast National of UNSINKABLE WOMEN: Stories and Songs from the Titanic. This acclaimed new play was performed by the distinguished American actress Deborah Jean Templin.

In 2004 JENA offered BLACK BROADWAY, a tribute to the best in black musical theater. The piece starred, Monica Paton and CE Smith from the Broadway productions of Ragtime and The Full Monty.

JENA's current offerings include the Civil Rights Play MY SOUL IS A WITNESS, 8 TRACK, THE SOUNDS OF THE 70's, REJOICE DEAR HEARTS, AN EVENING WITH BROTHER DAVE GARDNER, and JACKIE, VI, and LENA.
