ABOUT THE JENA COMPANY Founded in 2001, The JENA Company develops, produces and books national tours of new work by acclaimed theatre artists. The company is led by its Managing Director, John Adams. In recent years, he served as Producer for Encore Attractions. Among their most prominent credits is the national tour and U.S premiere of UNFORGETTABLE, The Nat King Cole Story. In addition, they presented Terrance McNally’s Tony Award winning play MASTER CLASS, starring Charlotte Cornwall from The Royal National Theatre, and a two-season tour of MAHALIA, A Gospel Musical.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Adams mounted 35 national tours for Daedalus Productions. These presentations ranged from EVITA and AIN'T MISBEHAVIN' to A SOLDIER'S PLAY and FOR COLORED GIRLS. For Daedalus, he also produced the Actors Equity National Tour of FROM THE MISSISSIPPI DELTA, originally presented on the New York stage by Oprah Winfrey.
The JENA Company’s first production was the coast to coast National of UNSINKABLE WOMEN: Stories and Songs from the Titanic. This new work was created and performed by the distinguished American actress Deborah Jean Templin. In 2004 JENA offered BLACK BROADWAY, a tribute to the best in black musical theater. The piece starred Monica Paton and CE Smith from the Broadway productions of Ragtime and The Full Monty. In 2005 and 2006 JENA produced and toured the highly acclaimed Civil Rights Chronicle, MY SOUL IS A WITNESS. The following year JENA offered a second Civil Rights piece, JACKIE, VI, & LENA. Like MY SOUL IS A WITNESS, JACKIE, VI…was written by award-winning Chicago playwright David Barr III.
