About The Historian
ABOUT THE HISTORIAN…

Reflecting actual events, the stories of AMERICA AMERIQUE are drawn from letters, court documents, journals, diaries, newspapers, and broadcasts, as well as historical studies of the personalities and eras depicted.

The research and historical framework for the play have been developed and guided by the young American historian, Thomas Jessen Adams.

THOMAS JESSEN ADAMS is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of History at the University of Chicago, where he also teaches. He received his B.A. in History and Women’s Studies, magna cum laude, from Tulane University in 2002, and an M.A. in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago the following year. Mr. Adams is also a fellow at the Scherer Center for the Study of

American Culture. He has received eighteen major awards for his work in history, including a Haynes Foundation Research Fellowship, a Huntington Library Fellowship, the Beveridge Research Fellowship from the American Historical Association, and the Wallis Annenberg Fellowship from the University of Southern California. He has published a number of articles, on topics ranging from the Labor History of Wal-Mart to Immigration Chronicles. These pieces have appeared in both academic and popular journals.
